Ø Dress Code: First Lutheran School has adopted a Uniform Dress Code for students in grades Kindergarten through Grade Six. The Uniform Dress Code has been adopted placing emphasis on good taste, modesty, safety, neatness, cleanliness, and decency within a Christ-centered environment. Our school's philosophy of high expectations and high standards in excellence carries through in our holding high expectations in terms of the dress of the students. Our school is a special place with special standards. The following apply to all school activities - in or out of school.
In order to insure follow-through and maintenance of standard appearance in our Uniform Dress Code, the cooperation of the parent is essential. Parents are to check to make sure that their children are "within the code" before they leave the house each morning. They are also asked to cooperate with the school when we deal with students who violate the Code. The faculty will make daily checks to evaluate the dress of each student when they enter class in the morning. We ask that parents make every effort to send their children off to school dressed within the Code guidelines.
The following regulations are to be followed in terms of clothing worn to school.
Shirts/Tops
· Only short or long sleeved "polo" shirts are to be worn to school and school-related activities.
· Shirts are to be plain knit shirts with two or three buttons down the front.
· Only solid color shirts are to be worn. They are to be of the following colors.
· In Kindergarten through Grade Six - Red, Navy, Powder Blue or a school-logo blue shirt.
· The shirts must be plain - no logos, stripes, different colored collars, fringe, etc. are allowed.
· All students must have at least one school-logo blue shirt, which is to be purchased from Land's End. Parents may supply us with money, sizes, length of sleeve and we'll be happy to order it for you. These shirts must be worn to chapel. The sleeves may be either long or short.
· All shirts must remain tucked in. They are to remain tucked in when the student is [and will be asked] to do "toe-touches."
· Shirts will remain tucked in throughout the school day.
· Only plain navy blue sweatshirts or school-logo sweatshirts [navy blue] may be worn to school and they must be worn over dress code approved shirts.
Pants/Skirts/Shorts/etc.
· All pants/skirts/shorts/etc. must be solid, plain khaki or navy blue. (No jeans/denim).
· Denim, allowed on Fridays, must also be a solid and plain blue color.
· Khaki or navy colored skirts, skorts, jumpers are appropriate for girls.
· Dresses, jumpers, and skirts are to be no shorter than two [2] inches above the knee when standing upright.
· All pants in grades One through Six must be worn with belts. A belt is defined as a devise to aid in keeping the pants up in an appropriate position with a clasp to hold it securely closed. [Sewn in belts with clasps are acceptable - ropes, drawstrings, etc. are not acceptable].
· Plain blue denim jeans may be worn on Fridays.
Miscellaneous
· No thong sandals are allowed at any grade level.
· Students in preschool through grade six wearing sandals must wear socks also.
· Open back [clog type] shoes may be worn as long as the student has a pair of gym shoes at school for recess and gym.
· Shoes with laces must be laced and tied. High heels and flip-flops are not allowed.
· No in-line convertible gym shoes are allowed.
· Jewelry may be worn if it is in good taste and not bizarre or excessive.
· Boys may wear no earrings.
· No facial jewelry, tattoos, or distracting hairstyles, i.e. unnatural colors, spiked hair are allowed.
· No hats, caps, or headgear or jackets may be worn in the building.
· Hair length: Boys - at or above the collar and out of the eyes. Girls - out of the eyes.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE APPROPRIATENESS OF WHAT YOUR CHILD IS WEARING TO SCHOOL - CALL THE SCHOOL OFFICE BEFORE SENDING YOUR CHILD OFF TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING.
Violations
Each morning, after opening prayer and pledges, each teacher will inspect his/her students' dress. Violators will receive a "Dress Code Violation" notice and may be asked to call home for a change of clothing. A student may amass up to three such violations during the school year before a detention is issued.
