Third Grade January News
Welcome back and happy New Year! I hope you all had time to spend with family and friends. Thank you for all the presents, cards, and well wishes at the holiday. We begin the season of “Epiphany” in our church year. We will focus on how God has “revealed/ manifested” His light of salvation unto us all. We begin this year being the “light” of Christ by making him known to all.
What we’ll be learning:
Reading: The first part of the month we will be finishing our novel “Follow my leader”. A service dog will visit this Friday (9th) to further our understanding of the work of the dog in the book. This novel is worth six A.R. points. We will then begin our next reading textbook and a unit titled “From past to Present”. We will focus also on using the Shurley Method English program to label and learn parts of a sentence.
Math: We will review the multiplication tables of 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, and 11 that we’ve covered. We’ll be working on 4’s, 6’s, and 7’s. This will require memorization and constant practice at school and home. We will use songs, games, drill, videos, and worksheets to practice.
Science: We will be ending our unit on “Plants and Animals Living Together”. Our next unit will be “Weather”. We will track weather patterns, study weather conditions, experiment with ice and water, and do other weather activities.
Religion: We will study the miracles and parables of Jesus. We will learn about the season of “Epiphany” and how we can be disciples of Christ. We will recite the Apostles Creed and learn the “Books of the Bible” song.
Social Studies: We will continue on in our chapter about Arkansas early settlers. We are learning about the French and Spanish explorations as well as Arkansas Post and Indian plight.
Just a Note:
1. The quarter ends on Friday the 9th. A. R. points are also due. Your child should have 20 points this year with a 85% comprehension rate. I have sent home an update on your child’s progress. Remember, our novel is worth 6 points and can be tested on this week.
2. We are in need of rolls of paper towels and treasure box items. Now is also a good time to check through your child’s supplies and replenish them.
3. Happy Birthday to Chance and Sasha,God’s blessings to you!
4. This month we switch to using cursive writing in most of our assignments.
